Ward Zoning and Planning Committee Meeting: 2/23/05

The Alderman reported in her Update on the Ward that a Senn Tomorrow Committee has been formed, chaired by John Horan, founder of the Lawndale Charter School, and consisting of community members. The committee will focus on making improvements to Senn.

"Cop Cams" are due to be installed at Winthrop and Granville, Winthrop and Thorndale and Winthrop and Argyle. Greg Harris, chief of staff, explained how the Police will work with the cameras.

Greg Harris gave an update on the Broadway zoning study and Clark Street Study. URS will have a draft ready soon of its study on Broadway and the possible impact of -2 and -3 zoning designations. After the draft is received, a meeting of the Broadway Leadership Group will be held so that the consultants can give an initial presentation on the draft.

The Clark Street study will be conducted by the Urban Land Institute and the Metropolitan Planning Council. They will look at the Clark Street retail development including the Andersonville area and the North Clark Street area.

Adam Burke, director of the Edgewater Development Corporation (EDC) and architect John Ritzy, EDC board member, made a presentation on zooning, discussing the various business and commercial zoning designations and what they entail.

The next meeting is scheduled for March 30, 2005.
