Ward Zoning and Planning Committee Meeting: 10/25/04
WARD UPDATE: Nookies Restaurant (Winthrop/Bryn Mawr) will need substantial remediation before construction can begin to renovate the space. Since this is a city-owned property, the city will pay for the remediation. 5230 N. Kenmore (Barbara Walters project) will have a new water main installed. Construction is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks. The Alderman’s office met with the Argyle-Winmore block club last week regarding the Argyle Street streetscape. There are existing plans to improve this street in the next 1-2 years. They are waiting for funding from the City. The owner of the VAI parking lot will be meeting with affected block clubs (Argyle-Winmore, UPCORP, etc) in the near future to discuss the future use of this space. The Margate Park Playlot is officially open. The old playlot may be turned into a native flower/vegetation garden. The Carmen-Winona Garden Club will meet with the Chicago Park District to discuss the future use of this space. Chicago Public Schools is proposing to add a Naval Academy to Senn High School. There will be another public hearing scheduled with the Board of Education in the next few weeks. On November 8th at 1:00 p.m. at City Council, a meeting will be held to discuss fire-safety measurements for buildings that are 80ft. or higher. Tax bills have been sent out. The Alderman’s office has asked the community to remind senior citizens to check their tax bill to ensure they are receiving their senior exemption. If they are not receiving this exemption, senior citizens are encouraged to call 312-744-1000 to apply for a refund. Flu vaccine supplies can be checked at public health. A community task force is reviewing Clark St. zoning (Ainslie to Devon). The Broadway Redevelopment Task Force has hired URSTPAP, an outside consulting firm, to conduct a zoning study from Foster to Devon. A 3-D modeling presentation and analysis will be presented in January, 2005. |
