Ward Zoning and Planning Committee Meeting: 3/31/04

Ward Update: Alderman Smith is currently undergoing chemotherapy to treat breast cancer. The prognosis looks very good for the Alderman. She was not present at the meeting but sent a message thanking everyone for the cards, flowers, well-wishes and support as she undergoes treatment.

The Walgreens building at 1055 W. Bryn Mawr is under final permit review. The developer is courting upscale tenants. 1100 W. Bryn Mawr (Nookies) have not closed yet due to environmental issues from the drycleaner which is next door to their building. Renovation is scheduled to begin this summer. The development at 5555 N. Sheridan is waiting for above and below ground utility line issues to be cleared up so construction can begin. There are only 4 units left in the Goldblatt's building. Borders is scheduled to have their grand opening in May. The Sheridan and Thorndale Park is under construction. The Margate Park playlot will be open in mid-July. Ingrid is working with the UCC, neighborhood block clubs and Chicago Health Services regarding safety issues in Margate Park. The Landmark building on Clark St. has been sold - no changes in rent at the present time. Senn High School has a new primary care health center available to the students provided by Chicago Health Outreach. Big Chicks is waiting for an amendment at the state government level to be passed to allow it to have a liquor license in spite of it's close proximity to a place of worship. The amendment passed the House of Representatives and is being brought before the Senate.

4840 N. Broadway: There was a unanimous vote of approval to lift the Liquor License moratorium on Broadway from Lawrence to Argyle to accommodate the Annoyance Theatre that has leased space from the Gunnison Lofts building.

5107 N. Kenmore: Motion approved for the request for rezoning from R4 to R5, zoning exceptions to reduce the front yard set back from 15 ft. to 7.8 ft., the side yard set back to 3 ft., increase the height from 45 ft. to 50 ft., and grant alley access. The developer is Jeremy Goldberg, Goldberg Management.

Winthrop between Foster and Winona Unanimous vote in favor of a proposal for a campus park at Goudy School.
