Ward Zoning and Planning Committee: Meetings and Discussion Thru January 2004

[This is a summary of the status of some projects that have come before the WZPC or that have been discussed by the Alderman.]

1128 W. Ardmore: The owner listed the property for sale. There is an interested buyer. More information will be reported as it becomes available.

5206 N. Broadway: Piser/Weinstein is closed permanently. The property is being offered for sale by the Texas-based owner. The Alderman's office has revoked driveway permits and introduced an ordinance, now being held in committee, to rezone the property. It has also asked the Landmarks Commission to evaluate the corner building for landmark status. That building also is owned by the corporation that owns the funeral home site. A buyer would have to go through our community process before developing the property.

6328-32 N. Kenmore: These two properties were in an estate and were recently offered for sale by sealed bid. Loyola University submitted the highest bid, which was accepted. Loyola has not yet presented any plans for the properties.

5647 N. Clark: The deteriorated building on the site was demolished. Construction should begin soon on the new development with two commercial spaces and 12 condominiums.

4840 N. Broadway: The commercial spaces are leased to Annoyance Theatre and two upscale restaurants. Construction has been approved by the Landmarks Commission and should begin soon. The historic restoration will include 22 loft style condominium units in addition to the commercial spaces.

1100-14 W. Bryn Mawr: Nookies is ready to close on the city-owned property. Restoration of the building should begin soon after closing.

1055 W. Bryn Mawr: The sale is closed and the developer will be applying for building permits for the restoration of this building.

1122 W. Catalpa: The Chicago Planning Commission and the Chicago City Council Committee on Zoning have approved plans for the proposed 126-unit condominium building on this long-vacant site. Reza Toulabi, of Reza's Restaurants, is the developer. Thom Greene, Greene & Proppe Design, is the architect.

5426-30 N. Sheridan: Permits were applied for to build the 40-unit condo building.

5556 N. Sheridan: The city and the Alderman are insisting that the proposed buyer conclude the sale and apply for building permits. The 36 condominium units are 45 percent pre-sold.

4700-40 N. Broadway: Borders is due to open in April in the old Goldblatt's building. The 37 condominium units are selling quickly.

5230-36 N. Kenmore: Construction has begun for this 20-unit condominium building.

Goudy School: The beautiful new addition is finished and open. The proposal for the campus park should be on the WZPC agenda in February.
