President: Edward Kuske April 10, 2010 Alderman Mary Ann Smith 48th Ward Office 5533 N Broadway Chicago, IL 60640 Dear Alderman Smith: Following your meeting on March 31, 2010 as to the future development of the Somerset Building, the residents of the Castlewood Terrance Association were asked for their input based on the information supplied by Joe Trendl on this meeting. The Castlewood Terrace Association supports the restoration of the current building to its original historic state. We further support the development of this property as an affordable rental property but only under the following operating conditions: Only offers rental leases of one year or longer, no short-term rentals. Does not operate as residential hotel Does not operate as subsidized a housing unit. Has an active and best practices prescreening program for new tenants. The street-level of the building should be developed for retail businesses that support the efforts of the Sheridan Road Task Force. We appreciate and thank you for your continuing efforts in seeking the communities input and agreement on all new developments in the 48 ward before proceeding on them.
