Attendees: Suzette Logan; Sharri Townsend, Sylvia Moore, Grace Chun, Bill Hersh, Jennifer Bice, Joe Trendl

Meeting began at 6:30pm. Treasurer’s report and a reading of previous meeting’s notes were waived in the interest of time.

Jennifer began the meeting with a summary of park events:

  • A new phys-ed instructor has been hired, Tim O’Malley. Tim was a seasonal rec leader at Shield Park.
  • There is a possibility—participant dependant----that Tim could hold instructional classes for kids at 6pm-----in discussion phase only

  • Teen Club, every Tuesday for 12 year olds and up

Sherri, brought up that there needs to be more activities for teens other than Teen Club. It was explained that there was a seasonal sports program that cost $8 for the entire session, but it has not been well attended. It included, track, basketball, tumbling, hockey and soccer.

  • Jennifer continued, and said that the Park district was in negotiations with the Archery Club on a new contract to offer archery

  • Golf Camp for 9-14 year olds is starting up—NO COST-at Warren Park

  • Jennifer will find out if parents are needed as single day/outing volunteers

  • Day Camp begins June 28, 2010—sold out. Only 2 spots open for 7 year olds

  • Cubs gave 100 free tickets to Margate Park Kids

  • Play Camp sold out almost instantly

  • MPAC will be sponsoring 2 Zumba nights for this season

  • Our Yoga instructor has dropped out and we are searching for a new instructor

  • We will investigate offering Line Dancing and Origami classes.----Grace suggested that perhaps we could get a preview of the line dancing prior to committing to the program

  • THE FIELD HOUSE WILL RE-OPEN ON SUNDAYS, 6/27 from 10am – 4pm

  • Free Movie in the Park—Blind Side on July 2. Free popcorn, RCN sponsored free beverages, all are welcome. Starts at dusk (approx 8:30pm)

A request was made of MPAC for a gift card to offset the cost of needed ice for Day Camp, a vote was taken and approved with 100% yes. $100 was approved for Jennifer from the treasury funds.

Sylvia suggested a ‘tip jar’ for donations to MPAC on movie night and Sherri suggested that MPAC have a SUGGESTION BOX, in order to hear from the neighbors----along with their email addresses for future communications.

Joe Trendl explained the current plan for the 4th of July fireworks celebration in the area.
